Probably what Pew meant with Centineo is more people would’ve liked Scott more regardless of his character/writing because Centineo is white (is he? let’s assume he is), and since Posey is Latinx, he didn’t get that “privilege”. Which is true because fandom is/can be racist, and racism is everywhere including fandom. Some fans probably hate Scott “easier” because he’s Latinx, true, and some fans will turn a blind eye to the fact that Scott is badly written if the actor’s white.

But the point that he missed is: not all people hate Scott because of his race. His character is sooo badly written. Centineo would still play a badly written character. And for me, Centineo’s acting skill is not that much different than Posey, so it’s not helping either. Even the best actor in the world couldn’t save the character imo. My favorite White actors in the world is Chris Evans, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt, and if one of them took Scott’s role, I would’ve been more frustrated because WHY THE FUCK DID YOU TAKE THAT ROLE ;_____; Their handsomeness (or Pew would say their Whiteness) still couldn’t save the character.

So I think what he asked is actually “be lenient to him as if he’s White”. *shrugs*

I mean, I guess that’s what they meant too (Pew reblogged this nonsense, but I don’t think he posted it–and I care too much for my brain cells to go back and check his blog), but it’s an odd point to make when you could put Posey and Centineo side by side and they could be brothers.

Given the argument is about how racism impacts on fandom’s perception of a character, you’d think it would make more sense to compare Posey with, well, my new favourite imaginary actor Aryan McWhiteguy.

It’s a bit of a logic fail, because when you need to google both actors to find out their ethnicities aren’t the same, you’re kind of shooting your own argument in the foot.

Centineo’s wikipedia entry says he’s of Italian and German descent. He may be more than that, IDK.

Tom Hardy = I’ll explain how I got there in a minute

just before Mad Max came out I saw Tom Hardy in a film with Stellan Skarsgard in which he played a tweaker

the film was excellent [and has about ten titles, imdb calls it the Killing Gene] and very well written but the character made my skin crawl

it was not the first thing I had seen Tom Hardy in and at first I didn’t recognise him

then I went to see Mad Max in which he plays a blank slate for the others to be reflected against – which is very difficult thing to do, it’s easy to forget he’s even in that movie and that’s deliberate

then i saw him and his dogs reading a kids bedtime story on jackanory and he was the most adorable thing ever

same guy, two well written narratives – two reactions

why it’s almost like a character can create a reaction just on how well they’re written

and I chose Hardy especially because he’s white

He turned my stomach in Revenant but I was glued to the screen for Taboo

there will be people out there who didn’t like Posey because he was latinx, and the majority of those people would have watched another show, but mostly they didn’t like him because he rubbed them up the wrong way, because his character arc didn’t do what we expected it to, because of the way he reacted, because of the decisions he made

i don’t think it’s bad writing – i don’t think we were meant to like him at all, considering teen wolf never meets a trope it doesn’t subvert I think he was meant to be a subversion

but still didn’t like him

Tom Hardy is one of the few actors out there that can really inhabit a role, I think. To the extent that yes, when he’s playing the bad guy, he makes your skin crawl. And then you see him in something else, and it’s like the first time you’ve ever seen him.

I think I saw him first on the TV show Cape Wrath (such a weird show, I wish it’s got a second season!) and he was creepy as fuck, and I couldn’t believe it later on when people were swooning over him–but see him in another role, and you form an entirely new opinion. He’s a chameleon.

But the best chameleon ever is this guy here:

Who is also this guy here:
